Malawi end Super Falcons' unbeaten record against WAFCON debutants with historic victory

Malawi have made history by becoming the first debutant nation to defeat Nigeria at the CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), ending the Super Falcons' long-standing unbeaten record against first-time participants.

The Scorchers, making their maiden appearance at the continental tournament, stunned the 10-time African champions with a thrilling 3-2 victory at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat on Tuesday.

Temwa Chawinga and her sister Tabita Chawinga starred for Malawi, combining to score all three goals that sealed a memorable win on the country's WAFCON debut.

Nigeria's goals came from captain Rasheedat Ajibade and striker Uchenna Kanu, but they were not enough to prevent the Super Falcons from suffering a historic defeat.

Before Tuesday's encounter, Nigeria had faced tournament debutants 17 times at WAFCON, recording 16 wins and one draw without a single loss since the competition began in 1998.

Malawi's victory not only marks one of the biggest upsets in WAFCON history but also ends one of the Super Falcons' most remarkable tournament records.
